Stephen Curry scored a career-high 44 points to lead the Golden State Warriors past the Minnesota Timberwolves 119-114 on Wednesday. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for Golden State, which had started the season 0-3. Minnesota dropped its second straight game after beginning the campaign with three wins.
The contest marked the first regular-season test for the Timberwolves without Anthony Edwards. The team announced Tuesday that Edwards would undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and miss extended time. Edwards averaged 33.3 points per game in Minnesota's first four outings.
Curry finished 11 of 27 from the field, including six three-pointers. He went 16 of 16 from the free-throw line and added eight rebounds and six assists. Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg provided additional support with 26 points for the visitors.
The Timberwolves trailed by as many as 24 points before mounting a late rally. Jaden McDaniels and Jonathan Kuminga led the fourth-quarter push. Kuminga scored 20 points against his former draft team, having been selected seventh overall by Golden State in 2021. He signed with Minnesota as a free agent in September.
McDaniels and Terrence Shannon Jr. each contributed 19 points. Guard Lamelo Ball finished with eight points after shooting 3 of 11 from the field and 2 of 8 from beyond the arc. Minnesota failed to close the gap when McDaniels missed two three-point attempts in the final minute while trailing 116-112.
Both teams return to action on Friday. The Warriors host the Los Angeles Lakers, while the Timberwolves welcome the Los Angeles Clippers to Target Center.
