Sosie Bacon Cast in MGM+ Horror Series 'The Black Tapes'

Sosie Bacon has secured a lead role in the upcoming MGM+ television series, The Black Tapes. The casting decision places her alongside Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who was previously announced for the project. The series is an adaptation of the popular horror podcast of the same name.

Production for the eight-episode first season is scheduled to commence in Vancouver in January. The story follows Dr. Richard Strand, a psychiatrist with a mysterious past, who teams up with Alex Regan, a scientist. Their goal is to debunk paranormal cases involving hauntings, possessions, and disappearances known as the black tapes. As they investigate these events, they uncover a hidden occult world and a centuries-old apocalyptic conspiracy.

Regan is described in the official materials as a methodical physicist. She joins the investigation as a skeptic but finds her scientific training insufficient to ignore evidence of the supernatural. Coster-Waldau will portray the psychiatrist, while Bacon takes on the role of the obsessed and relentless scientist.

Bacon recently finished filming the second season of Amazon’s Scarpetta. Her previous television credits include Mare of Easttown, Narcos: Mexico, and 13 Reasons Why. In film, she has starred in the features Smile and its sequel. She is also set to appear in the horror-comedy Family Movie, which is directed by her parents, Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon.

Terry Miles and Paul Bae created the source podcast and will serve as writers and executive producers for the series. Kearie Peak of Peak Pictures, along with John Rogers and Jennifer Court of Kung Fu Monkey Productions, are also attached as executive producers. MGM+ Studios will handle production. Bacon is represented by Gersh, Range Media Partners, and Schreck Rose.
