Ireland’s economy recorded a sharp expansion in the third quarter of 2026, with gross domestic product rising by 5.5 percent compared to the previous period.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) released provisional estimates confirming that growth between July and September was fueled primarily by industrial sectors and information and communication industries.

These sectors are heavily dominated by multinational corporations. Analysts note that the traditional GDP metric often overstates domestic activity because it includes contract manufacturing, where goods produced abroad are counted in Irish exports.

Despite the headline figure, AIB predicts the economy will grow by 3.8 percent for the full year when measured by modified gross national income. This adjusted figure is considered a more accurate gauge of domestic economic health.

The bank attributed the recent momentum to spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure. Specifically, the fit out of new data centers and general investment by Irish based tech firms are driving the numbers.

Inflation remains a challenge, with AIB warning that price increases are likely to peak between 4 and 5 percent.

Separate data from the Central Bank shows that the net financial wealth of Irish households increased by €31.8 billion in the second quarter. This brings the total to €473 billion.

Positive revaluations accounted for €29.8 billion of that increase. When property and land assets are included, total household wealth reaches €1.4 trillion.

This equates to approximately €268,000 per person in the state. Higher property values, which make up more than two-thirds of household wealth, have driven the rise in recent years.

The Central Bank reported that Ireland remained a net lender to the rest of the world during the period. Net investment in financial assets exceeded net financial liabilities by €67.9 billion.

Government financial assets stood at €156.1 billion in the second quarter, while total liabilities reached €234 billion. This left the government with a net financial wealth position of -€77.9 billion, a continued improvement in its net position.
