Rick Jackson urged voters to support his economic agenda in Cumming on Sunday night.
The Republican nominee addressed a crowd of dozens of supporters in Forsyth County. He framed his campaign around reducing the financial burden on Georgia families. Jackson proposed cutting the state income tax in half. He also promised to freeze property taxes across the state.
Jackson, a healthcare executive, spoke alongside his wife and son. Both family members delivered remarks to the audience. Several Georgia Republican leaders also addressed the group. The rally marked a final push before the general election concludes Tuesday. Voters will select a successor to term-limited Governor Brian Kemp.
Jackson emphasized his plan to address challenges facing working families. "We will build on the things that brought opportunity here and get after the challenges still holding families back," Jackson said. He contrasted his approach with that of his opponent. He criticized Keisha Lance Bottoms, the former Atlanta mayor, for her record in city government.
Jackson argued that Bottoms failed to demonstrate effective leadership. "She had a chance to lead. She had to show a chance to show what she does when people are counting on her, and we saw it," Jackson said. He warned against repeating her performance in the statehouse. "We can't let her do to Georgia what she did to Atlanta because there is one simple truth. She cannot campaign her way around; bad mayors don't make good governors," he stated.
Bottoms centered her campaign on affordability, healthcare access, and housing. She presents a different strategy for managing the state economy. Jackson’s campaign officials announced a statewide get-out-the-vote tour for Monday. The tour includes stops in Canton, Perry, Albany, Savannah, and Augusta. Jackson is scheduled to watch the election results with supporters in Sandy Springs on Tuesday night.
Supporter Scott Ridling expressed confidence in Jackson’s ability to win. "We're just hopeful that he can turn out a win," Ridling said. The rally in Cumming served as a key event for the Republican nominee. It highlighted the economic messages he will carry into the final day of voting.
