The death toll from a multi-vehicle collision on County Road 22 in the Municipality of Lakeshore rose to three on Wednesday morning. Essex County Ontario Provincial Police confirmed that the final victim, a passenger transported to the hospital, was officially pronounced deceased. This marks the third and final update from investigators on the casualty count.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene at 6:07 a.m. on Wednesday. The responders included Essex County OPP, Lakeshore Fire Department personnel, and Essex-Windsor EMS. Upon arrival, police found the drivers of two vehicles with life-threatening injuries. Medics pronounced both drivers dead at the scene.

A passenger from one of the vehicles was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Initial police reports stated this individual had died. Subsequent updates indicated the passenger had regained vital signs upon arrival at the medical facility. The final update issued Wednesday morning reversed that status, confirming the passenger died in the hospital.

Investigators continue to examine the roadway between Manning Road and West Pike Road. The section remains closed to traffic, with police expecting the closure to last for several hours. Other individuals involved in the crash are currently being assessed for injuries.

The cause of the collision has not yet been released. Police stated that further information will be provided as the ongoing investigation progresses. Officials also reminded motorists to avoid calling emergency lines to check on the road closure, as those calls can delay response times for active emergencies.
