Indiana residents have already submitted 476,802 ballots as of this week, with Election Day set for Tuesday, Nov. 3. This total stands 61,345 votes higher than the 415,547 ballots cast at the same point in the 2022 midterm election cycle.
The primary driver of this increase is in-person voting activity. Voters cast 405,786 early ballots in person this year, a figure representing a roughly one-third rise over the 296,792 in-person ballots recorded at this stage of the 2022 election.
Conversely, the number of mail-in ballots has declined sharply. Only 64,721 mail-in votes have been recorded this year, a drop of more than 43% from the 113,808 mailed ballots seen at this time in 2022.
Marion County data mirrors these statewide trends. County officials reported that residents submitted 13,145 more early votes than in the previous midterm. In Indianapolis specifically, in-person early voting nearly doubled, rising from 20,789 ballots in 2022 to 40,867 ballots this year.
Local mail-in voting also decreased by over 41% between the two election cycles. The state provides resources for voters to check ballot details and absentee voting information through the WFYI 2026 Voter Guide and the vote.indy.gov website.
