The final week of October in Kansas City, Missouri, is running warmer than usual, but residents should expect near daily opportunities for precipitation. Meteorologists have issued a First Warn for Halloween, signaling a 50 percent chance of scattered rain.

The wet weather pattern began in earnest on Tuesday. Skies remained mostly cloudy with highs near 70 degrees, which is several degrees above the seasonal norm. A 30 percent chance of spotty rain showers persisted from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., before conditions turned drier for the remainder of the day.

Light moisture remained in the forecast for the middle of the week. Wednesday and Thursday brought partly to mostly cloudy skies with 20 to 30 percent chances for morning rain. Friday saw an increase in cloud cover and a 40 percent chance of rain, while highs settled in the mid to upper 70s.

Attention turns to Saturday, when the First Warn takes effect for Halloween. Forecasters indicate a 50 percent likelihood of hit and miss showers that could disrupt festivities and trick or treating. They advise keeping a rain jacket handy, though they do not expect a washout. Highs will hover around 70 degrees, dropping into the 60s during evening hours.

Sunday offers a breather with only a 30 percent chance of spotty rain and partly to mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures will cool slightly, with highs near 68 degrees. The pattern shifts again on Monday as the next impactful system arrives.

A First Warn is also in place for Monday, indicating a 50 percent chance of rain and storm activity. Highs will remain in the upper 60s, continuing the warmer than normal trend for the start of the new week. Forecasters are monitoring the precise timing and track of a compact ripple high in the atmosphere to determine the exact impact of these systems.
