Lahaina Tacos has moved its family-run operation to the Pioneer Plaza food court in downtown Honolulu.

The shop relocated from Maui one year ago, where it was originally founded by the brothers' late father, Armando Haro.

After Armando returned to Mexico, his siblings Pedro and Ana Haro assumed control of the business to preserve the original family recipes.

Pedro Haro described the venture as a collective family effort rather than a single brand.

“It’s a family dream. It really isn’t one person. It really isn’t one name. It’s Lahaina,” Pedro Haro said.

The couple noted that Mexico served as their original home, while Lahaina became their new residence, and they aim to combine those identities through their food.

For the Day of the Dead, the owners displayed an ofrenda featuring photographs and favorite meals of their father, who died three years ago.

In Mexican custom, the holiday spans two days, beginning November 1 to remember children and continuing November 2 to honor adults.

The menu includes a birria torta seasoned with garlic, onions, and tomatoes, along with pork tostadas layered with refried beans and lettuce.

These dishes rely on dipping sauces and recipes passed down from the owners' mother and grandmother.

Lahaina Tacos operates from a counter behind the Bank of Hawaii on Fort Street Mall.

The lunch service runs Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
