Mukesh Ambani now owns the two most valuable companies in India. Jio Platforms, the country's largest telecom and digital services operator, closed its first trading day at a premium of more than 25% above its initial offering price. This performance valued the firm at 13.05 trillion rupees, or $137.1 billion.

The stock rose an additional 3.3% at the open on Thursday. Reliance Industries, the Ambani flagship, holds more than 64% of Jio Platforms following the sale. This structure gives the family control over both major corporate entities.

The path to this market position began with a public listing on Wednesday. Prior to trading, Mukesh Ambani was visibly emotional as his three children discussed the company's history. The heirs pledged to generate value for investors over the next 50 years.

Investment analysts point to strong financial fundamentals. Proceeds from the offering will repay legacy telecom debt. The company's 5G investment cycle is also easing, which is expected to improve free cash flow. However, experts warn that the recent share price gains have already priced in much of the potential upside.

Anurag Singh, founder and managing partner of Ansid Capital, noted that Jio cleared nearly 300 billion rupees of debt with only 3% share dilution. He compared the company's current market value to American telecom giants AT&T and Verizon Communications. According to LSEG data, AT&T is valued at $139 billion and Verizon at $179 billion.

Akash Ambani, the 35-year-old managing director of Jio Platforms, outlined the company's strategic direction. He stated that over the next 10 years, Jio will "democratize every technology that can transform Indian lives." He identified artificial intelligence, cloud services, connected devices, and satellite connectivity as key growth areas. These satellite plans have drawn criticism from Elon Musk, who blamed the Ambanis for delays in launching Starlink in India.

Vaqarjaved Khan, a senior analyst at Angel One, cited a customer base of more than 500 million, operating margins of 52%, and net leverage of 0.36 times. He added that at a price-to-earnings ratio of 34 times, the stock reflects high quality. Future returns will depend on increases in average revenue per user and AI services. The listing has reshaped corporate rankings. Reliance Group's market value of 30 trillion rupees now exceeds the Tata Group's 25 trillion rupees.
