National Transportation Safety Board investigators recovered aircraft components 3.8 miles from the crash site in Palm Beach County, Florida.

The debris field extends nearly four miles from the impact crater. NTSB member Tom Chapman stated during a Tuesday news conference that the distance of the recovered parts indicates the Learjet 60 was likely breaking apart before it struck the ground.

Chapman noted that the tail elevator was fractured into three separate sections. He explained that the elevator controls the aircraft's pitch. Without an intact elevator, the pilots would not have had the mechanism to pull the jet out of its descent. The loss of that specific component provides critical evidence for the investigation into the cause of the accident.

Chapman acknowledged on Monday that structural failure likely began prior to impact. Minutes before the crash, co-pilot Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras reported to air traffic controllers that ice was accumulating on the aircraft. She also cited severe turbulence that shifted the plane vertically by more than 700 feet. The radio transmissions grew increasingly urgent as the jet descended rapidly toward the ground.

The Learjet 60 was traveling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas when it crashed and ignited in a fireball. The accident resulted in nine fatalities. Among the victims were Adam Robinson and Helen Sharp, a couple from Austin, and their two children, Emma, age 4, and Charlie, age 2. Three other passengers, Rachael Reed, Charmi Fehr, and Anita Maria Cetina, also died in the crash.

The pilot, Jeff Gregory, age 55, was identified by family members. Friends stated that Gregory was a devout Christian. A recording captured during the final descent contains a man's voice reciting the Lord's Prayer. Those close to Gregory believe the voice belonged to him. Filgueiras, who was 20 at the time of the crash, obtained her pilot's license before receiving her driver's license while attending high school in Boca Raton.

The investigation continues to focus on the mechanical condition of the tail assembly and the environmental factors cited by the crew. The scattered nature of the debris offers a physical timeline of the aircraft's breakup. Each recovered part contributes to the reconstruction of the final moments of the flight.
