Saul "Canelo" Alvarez enters the ring in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday to challenge Christian Mbilli for the WBC super middleweight title. The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. Eastern Time and will be broadcast on DAZN PPV. This matchup marks Alvarez's first appearance as a title challenger since his loss to Dmitry Bivol in May 2022.

Alvarez, who holds a professional record of 63 wins, 3 losses, and 2 draws with 39 knockouts, aims to reclaim a belt he lost to Terence Crawford in September 2025. That unanimous decision loss in Las Vegas was his first defeat in nearly four years. He now faces Mbilli, who stands at 29 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw with 24 knockouts.

Mbilli secured the WBC interim title in June 2025 by defeating Maciej Sulecki. He defended that interim strap in a split draw against Lester Martinez in September 2025. Following the World Boxing Council's decision to strip Crawford of the title in January, Mbilli was elevated to full champion status.

Betting markets favor the challenger despite physical disadvantages. DraftKings lists Alvarez at odds of -330 to win the fight. In contrast, the odds for Mbilli to win in the first three rounds stand at +10,000, representing the longest odds for any specific outcome in the card. Alvarez is also favored to win by decision or technical decision at -135.

CompuBox data reveals distinct stylistic differences between the two fighters. Mbilli throws an average of 78 punches per round, a volume 27 punches higher than the division average of 51. Alvarez is far more economical, averaging just 35.1 punches per round. Mbilli lands 26.6 power punches per round, which is 16.2 more than the super middleweight division average. Alvarez lands 8.8 power punches per round from 19.6 thrown.

Defensive metrics show Alvarez limiting opponent output. His opponents land only 5.3 power punches per round, a statistic that ranks eighth among champions and title contenders in the division. By comparison, Martinez landed 49% of his power punches in Mbilli's most recent bout. Alvarez's opponents land just 31.2% of their power punches, the sixth best defensive percentage in the category.

Both fighters punch below the division average for jabs. Mbilli lands 3.8 jabs per round from 20.3 thrown, a 18.7% success rate. Alvarez lands 3.5 jabs from 15.5 thrown, a 22.6% rate. The super middleweight division average stands at 4.2 jabs landed per round. The two men share no common opponents across their combined 98 professional fights, and neither has been knocked down in their respective careers.
