Resident Sequanna Taylor secured a second term in Wisconsin's 11th Assembly District after voters in Milwaukee's North Side chose her over Republican challenger Shandowlyon Reaves on Tuesday. Taylor will now serve another two-year term in the state legislature.

The incumbent campaigned on a platform focused on affordable housing, education funding, and support for working families. These issues formed the core of the local race, where economic opportunity and school resources were central topics for residents.

Voters cited Taylor's history in local government as a key factor in their decision. Jessica Butler, a voter in the district, noted that Taylor has been deeply rooted in the community since her time as a county board supervisor. "She shows up," Butler said.

Shanikia Spight, another resident, pointed to Taylor's role as a parent of four children. Spight argued that Taylor understands the struggles of local families better than most. "She would know more than anybody the parents' struggle, especially for our children," Spight said.

Taylor first took office in 2024 after winning the initial election for the district. Her background includes service on the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors before joining the State Assembly.

The election result keeps Taylor in Madison, where she will vote on state budgets and laws affecting housing and schools. The district includes communities on Milwaukee's North Side that rely on state funding for local services.
