Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy arrived in New York City on Monday to appear on the Today show, carrying the World Series trophy with him. The visit served as a public celebration for the team that just completed a championship season.
The Brewers defeated their opponents in all but two games during the entire postseason. Murphy stated he saw the team's success coming early in the year. He described the group as relentless from the beginning, noting that the players maintained a strong bond throughout the campaign.
Murphy credited the players' mutual support for the title. "They bought into each other for sure, you know, that's what it was about. They loved each other. They went through ups and downs together. They were relentless, and you look up one day and you're like, wow, there's no more games left," he said.
Despite the lopsided record, Murphy insisted the path to the championship felt difficult. "You didn't think of it that way. You know, every game was a struggle, so you didn't really think it was easy, you know what I mean? Every game was like, all right, what's next? So yeah, I'm just proud of the guys. They're really a great group," he explained.
The victory held particular weight in Milwaukee, a smaller market in Major League Baseball. Murphy pointed to the local turnout as evidence of the community's investment in the team. "I think it does. I mean, when you see the parade we had, they announced over 700,000 people," he said.
Murphy also addressed the team's famous racing sausages. When asked if the animals earned World Series rings, he left the answer open. "I don't know if they get rings, but they get a lot of, they get a lot of credit," he noted. The manager also referenced his recent appearance on Saturday Night Live, where he performed with the show's drunk uncle character. He said the experience felt very familiar to him.
The appearance concluded with Murphy discussing the team's dynamic and the scale of the local celebration.
