Detroit residents cast their ballots on Monday to determine the state's next leadership and local priorities.
The election features contests for the Michigan governor, state house, senate, and US congressional district seats. Voters also select the secretary of state and weigh in on statewide proposals. Regional millages concerning schools, cultural institutions, and The Detroit Zoo are on the ballot. In Detroit, electors decide two separate races for the Detroit Public Schools Community District.
Registered voters must cast ballots at their assigned polling places. Individuals can locate their specific site through the Michigan Voter Information Center or by calling the Detroit City Clerk at (313) 224-3270. Those who have not voted absentee or at early voting sites head to these locations today.
Polling stations remain open until 8 p.m. Voters in line by that hour retain the right to cast a ballot. This rule encourages residents to stay in line even if the clock strikes the closing time.
The vote covers a wide range of governance and funding issues. Statewide proposals address general policy matters, while local measures target specific institutional budgets. Detroiters specifically choose leaders for their public school district, a decision that shapes local educational administration and resource allocation.
