The Windsor International Film Festival opened Thursday morning in downtown Windsor, with both the opening and closing night screenings already sold out.

The 22nd annual event runs through November 8 and features 232 films from 55 countries. Executive Director and Chief Programmer Vincent Georgie reported that presales began in late August and exceeded expectations. The opening night selection, Paper Tiger starring Adam Driver, has no remaining seats. The closing night film, The Debut starring Julianne Moore, is also sold out.

Georgie noted that tickets remain available for the remaining 230 films, but he urged attendees to purchase seats early because sales are moving quickly. He stated that the strong response indicates the festival team is executing its plans effectively and that Windsor has established a successful cultural event.

The festival expects a high volume of visitors who will stay in the city and spend money at local businesses. Georgie said the increased tourist traffic will provide direct financial support to the local economy.

Screenings are taking place at three downtown venues: the Capitol Theatre, the Chrysler Theatre, and the Armouries building on University Avenue. Earlier this month, organizers moved some films to larger venues to handle higher than expected attendance.

The festival schedule continues through the first week of November. The current ticketing status reflects a high demand for the premier titles, while the broader program remains open for purchase.
